British passport - applied for our Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari. The team spotted that my photo was the wrong format and fixed it, and both eVisas were approved days before we flew into Kilimanjaro.

US passport - they sorted the multiple-entry visa US citizens have to use without me having to figure it out. Clear all-inclusive price and a printed grant notice that worked fine in Zanzibar.

Indian passport - quick and stress-free for our beach week in Zanzibar. They reminded me about the island travel insurance, which I had no idea about. Approved comfortably ahead of the trip.

Mainland, Zanzibar & arrival

Read the details below

One Tanzania eVisa covers both the mainland and Zanzibar, so you can pair a Serengeti or Kilimanjaro trip with the islands on a single application.

On arrival you complete an arrival declaration card and should have your return ticket ready.

Two things to plan for separately from your visa: visitors to Zanzibar must hold the mandatory inbound travel insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation, and a yellow fever certificate is required if you are arriving from a risk country.

For official travel and entry guidance see the Tanzania Immigration Services Department and the Visit Zanzibar insurance portal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tanzania has moved almost entirely to the electronic visa, and travellers are strongly advised to arrive with an approved eVisa rather than rely on a visa on arrival. Applying online before you fly removes the uncertainty at the airport, lets our team catch errors first, and means you walk up to the immigration desk with your Visa Grant Notice already in hand.
