Entry conditions & good to know
Read the details below
An ESTA authorizes you to board a flight or ship to the US, but a Customs and Border Protection officer decides entry at the airport, so carry proof of onward or return travel.
The ESTA is valid 2 years or until your passport expires, allows 90 days per visit, and the stay cannot be extended or changed to another status.
Note that travellers who have visited certain countries such as Cuba, Iran, Iraq or Syria since 2011, and many dual nationals of them, are generally not eligible for ESTA and must obtain a US visa.
For official guidance see the US Department of State Visa Waiver Program and US Customs and Border Protection.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. An ESTA is an Electronic System for Travel Authorization, not a visa. It lets citizens of Visa Waiver Program countries travel to the US for tourism, business or transit without a traditional visa. If your country is not in the programme, you need a US visa instead, which is a different and longer process.
