About Austria Passport

The Austrian passport is one of the strongest in the world. It ranks around 3rd on the Henley Passport Index, opening roughly 190 destinations visa-free or with a visa on arrival - including the entire EU and Schengen area, Japan, South Korea and the UAE.
As an EU citizen you also enjoy full freedom of movement across Europe.

Only a small group of countries still want an online eVisa or eTA from Austrians - and those are exactly the ones we handle for you. For travel outside the EU, keep your passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date.

Regional travel for Austria

Read the travel policy details for Austria

As an EU citizen, an Austrian enjoys full freedom of movement: you can travel, live, work and study in any other EU or EEA country and in Switzerland using just your passport or national ID card, with no visa, eTA or border checks inside the Schengen area.

Further afield, two changes are worth knowing: the UK now needs an ETA before you fly, and the United States needs an ESTA. As an EU national you do not need ETIAS - that authorisation is for visa-free travellers from outside Europe. Both the UK ETA and US ESTA are quick and online, and we can prepare them for you.
